The very first airport to operate within the New York area, Newark Liberty Airport was established towards the end of 1928. In the mid-1930s, crowds gathered to watch the arrival of famous aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, who opened the Administration Building, and for several years, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) remained the busiest airport on the planet, until 1939, when New York's LaGuardia Airport was finally completed.
